About the artwork
Le Premier Geste, French for the first gesture, is about beginnings, the single confident stroke that sets everything in motion.
One sweeping brushstroke of umber, burnt sienna and crimson rises from the lower corner and curls back on itself near the top, its bristle marks still visible. A handful of speckled blooms in amber, crimson and turquoise drift beside it across calm ivory paper.
Le Premier Geste suits entrance halls, studies and living rooms where one bold statement is wanted, and pairs beautifully with Floraison Sauvage.
About the artist
Roman Fontaine. Roman Fontaine paints by instinct: bold sweeping gestures, round blooms of colour and generous drips, with rich earth browns grounding bursts of crimson, amber, turquoise and gold. The Fontaine Collection grows from one of his original paintings and is developed in the Canvalora studio from his colours, gestures and forms. See every work by Roman Fontaine.
